Ancient Kuluta, the 'end of the habitable world' (Kulanthapitha) of Sanskrit texts, in the upper Beas valley. Transferred from Punjab on 1 November 1966.
The founding tradition credits Bihangmani Pal, who came from Prayag and established himself at Jagatsukh; the capital later moved to Naggar and then to Sultanpur (Kullu town) under Raja Jagat Singh in the 17th century.
- Kullu Dussehra — begins on Vijaya Dashami when the rest of India ends, runs seven days, and centres on Raghunathji, whose image Jagat Singh brought from Ayodhya to expiate the Durga Dutt affair.
- Bijli Mahadev, Hidimba Devi (Manali, 1553), Manu temple.
- Great Himalayan National Park — UNESCO World Heritage Site (2014).
- Parvati, Sainj, Tirthan valleys; Malana with its Jamlu tradition.
- Apple belt; Rohtang and Jalori passes.
