Alexander halts at the Beas
Alexander advanced to the Beas (Hyphasis) and there his army refused to go further. The republican peoples of the hills — the Ayudhajivi sanghas — had massed against him. His general Coenus raised twelve great altars on the bank to mark the limit of the advance; no trace of them survives.
