Khasas settle and form tribal republics

The Khasas entered the hills from the north-west and settled in small clan republics, each under an elected mavana. Their speech is treated as the ancestor of the Pahari languages, and the Kanets of the interior are usually identified as their descendants.

These republics are the janapadas that the Mahabharata and Panini will later name.
