Bara Shigri

FeedsChandra, which becomes the Chenab at Tandi

Bara Shigri, in the Chandra valley of Lahaul, is the largest glacier in Himachal Pradesh — about 28 km long, feeding the Chandra for much of its run down the valley. Shigri Parbat rises directly above it, the peak this roster already names for standing over it.

Its scale makes it the reference glacier for the whole Chandra–Spiti system: whenever a question asks which basin's retreat matters most for Himachal's hydel planning and for glacial-lake outburst flood risk, Bara Shigri and its Lahaul neighbours are the standard answer.
