Sonapani, in the Chandra basin of Lahaul, is one of the glaciers that feed the Chandra on its run down to Tandi, where it becomes the Chenab.
It is among the more closely studied glaciers of the basin for its retreat — the Chandra–Spiti belt is the state's standard case for glacier recession, tied both to the region's hydel potential and to the risk of glacial-lake outburst floods further downstream.
