Lake
Pong / Maharana Pratap Sagar
| Type | Reservoir |
|---|
Pong, formally Maharana Pratap Sagar, is the reservoir behind the dam on the Beas in Kangra, completed in 1974 and generating 396 MW. It was designated a Ramsar site in 2002 and is a major bird sanctuary.
Its construction displaced a very large number of families from the Beas valley, many resettled in Rajasthan's command area — a rehabilitation grievance that, together with Gobind Sagar, is the state's standard case study in development-induced displacement.
