Baba Kanshi Ram

Born at Dada Siba in Kangra. A poet in Pahari who used verse as political organising, he joined the national movement early and was jailed repeatedly.

Injured at the Sujanpur Tira conference of 1927, he took a vow to wear only black clothes until India was free — hence his popular name. Sarojini Naidu gave him the title 'Pahari Bulbul' and Gandhi's circle called him the 'Pahari Gandhi'. He also took part in the Kunihar agitation of 1920.
