Nainsukh of Guler

Son of Pandit Seu and brother of Manaku, Nainsukh left Guler to work for Raja Balwant Singh of Jasrota, producing an intimate, closely observed record of his patron's daily life that has no parallel in Indian painting.

The workshop of Seu, Manaku and Nainsukh carried the Pahari tradition from the hot, flat Basohli manner to the cool naturalism of Guler, out of which the Kangra school emerged in the 1780s under Sansar Chand.
