Sach Pass, 4,420 m in the Pir Panjal, is the link between Chamba town and the Pangi valley — one of the most isolated tracts in the state, home to the Pangwala tribe.
It is snowbound most of the year, which cuts Pangi off from the rest of Chamba for that stretch. In the months it is open, it is the Pangi valley's lifeline.
