A Simla Hill State whose capital Arki holds one of the finest surviving sets of wall paintings in the hills — the Arki sub-school, painted in the Diwan-e-Khas of the fort in the early 19th century, mixing Kangra manner with Sikh and colonial subjects.

Arki was occupied by the Gorkhas and served as one of Amar Singh Thapa's forward bases before the British campaign of 1814–15.
