Kunihar

A tiny state, but a large presence in the freedom-struggle paper. The Kunihar Praja Mandal, formed in 1939, extracted a written agreement from Rana Hardev Singh on 9 July 1939 — days before the Dhami firing — making it one of the first successful constitutional agitations in the hills.

An earlier agitation of 1920 under Gauri Shankar and Baba Kanshi Ram had already made Kunihar a centre of protest.
